Sunday Spotlight: Jess & Mollie!

And we’re back… with our latest Sunday Spotlight feature, spotlighting Jess C! we LOVE her laid back attitude, her ATX meets East Coast style and her super cute rescue mix, Mollie!!!

bk&leo: Tell us about your dog and rescue/fostering story!
Jess: Meet Mollie, a 7 year old Rhodesian Ridgeback + something mix. We think she’s part shepherd, but it’s hard to say. Anyway, back in 2007, I was one year out of college and living in Raleigh, NC. I had another rescue at the time named Gracie, and I thought to myself “it would be so fun and rewarding to foster dogs for a rescue group!” Of course they accepted my offer, since Gracie had worked out so well, and I got Mollie. She was a MESS. She had fleas and ticks and worms, and probably some other stuff I still don’t know about. Anyway, once I got her cleaned up, she was ADORABLE (I mean, look at the pictures), had a great personality, and fit in so well with me and Gracie. Needless to say, when the rescue group called to schedule a visit with a potential new family, I heard myself say “BUT I WANT HER!” And the rest is history. Here we are 7 years later!

Mollie is basically the best dog ever. All dogs are great, but it turns out she’s particularly awesome. She’s super laid back, which works out great for me. She is affectionate, but not the knock-you-over-and-lick-your-face type. She’s a little weird, and relatively socially awkward, but in a cute way (you know, like the nerdy girls in teen movies who end up being knock outs by the end). She likes to run with me, she plays fetch, and she does tricks (she can howl on command)! In summary, she’s my best friend.

bk&leo: What do you do for work?
Jess: I work in the pharmaceutical industry, and the best part about that for Mollie is that I work from home. So we get to hang out all day while I work. She loves it!

bk&leo: What’s your favorite piece of bk&leo jewelry (and why)? How would you incorporate bk&leo into your style to your own?
Jess: My favorite bk&leo piece is the Udou half moon & spike earring. I feel like 25-35 is an awkward (but awesome) age range as far as fashion and jewelry are concerned because you still feel young and want to wear hip pieces, but you also have a job/other social engagements that call for a more sophisticated look. I think these earrings perfectly combine both of those worlds: an office-to-happy hour piece for sure.

bk&leo: How have you brought your Austin style to Philadelphia?
Jess: Mollie and I recently moved from Austin, TX to the Philly area, and I must say, I was pleasantly surprised. Austin is a pretty hip, laid-back spot, but it turns out Philly has its own version of that going on. I definitely don’t feel like a fish out of water when I go out here! The most visible reminder of my Austin style is the bicycle tat on my forearm (pictured below). I used to ride my bike everywhere in ATX, and I do miss that. Philly is a little colder in the winter, so I haven’t been able to break out the bike too much yet. I get lots of compliments on my tattoo though!
