Wedding Wednesday: Something Old, Something New

We truly love all custom wedding jewelry projects, but there is nothing more special or sentimental than remaking a family heirloom into a piece for something both old and new for the bride to wear on her big day. We were so lucky to do just that for Maggie and Kelly’s wedding – one that was packed with fun, pops of color, lots of love and a beautiful mix of modern and traditional elements.

Maggie asked us to restring and re-style her grandmother’s pearl necklace, but we didn’t stop there. We set aside a few of these gorgeous pearls to create drop earrings for Maggie and her family members who served as bridesmaids.

Classic in the front, party in the back

To modernize the look and feel of the pearls for Maggie’s necklace, we created a double strand that highlighted the beautiful neckline on her classic and elegant gown. We also added some crystals to the back of the necklace for extra length and some added sparkle from behind (which also mirrored the belt detail).

Versatile earring drops

Maggie wanted to wear a pair of diamond studs that her now-husband Kelly had gifted her, but was looking to add some extra (temporary) dangle. We brainstormed and came up with a creative solution: we attached the pearls to dainty silver chains, which Maggie then slid onto the diamond stud posts. The chains are removable and can be paired with other studs in the future to reinvent the look anytime she wants!

Paying homage to the bride

In addition to Maggie’s grandmother’s pearls, which were used for her cousins’ earrings, we recreated the look with gorgeous black pearls for her other bridesmaids, which paired beautifully with the metallic bridesmaid dresses.

All these details, combined with the bright and happy flowers, the amazing police-station-turned-art-gallery venue, the bridal magazine-worthy cake display (courtesy of Pint Size Bakery) and more, made for one of the most gorgeous weddings we’ve ever seen!

Maggie was stunning, gorgeous, elegant and timeless and looked like old Hollywood royalty on her wedding day. It was such an honor to be able to contribute to her look and work with such a meaningful keepsake. Maggie also wore jewelry from other generations of her family that day, including her great-grandmother’s wedding band and her grandmother’s bracelet. We couldn’t love the sentiment or the photos any more. Congratulations Maggie and Kelly!
